The Song Remembers When: Thoughts From The Desk Of A Geek

Cathy’s Clown

If you know me you know I love to make people laugh, rather it’s in a sermon on Sunday morning or just talking amongst friends and family. And about 99% of the time my wife Cathy, and her everyday antics are  the source of the comedy relief of the story. Lucky for me she is a great sport, and has learned to fire back at me with her own comedic energy. But thank The Lord, she is more than a source of comedy, she is a true “helpmate.”

Humor doesn’t erase life’s hardships, but it can strengthen our bond as we face them together. Choosing joy, finding reasons to laugh, and delighting in one another are ways of cultivating a home filled with peace and love. As we walk with Christ, He can help us develop hearts that are quick to forgive, slow to become offended, and ready to embrace the joy He provides.

When God created Eve, He called her a “helper fit” for Adam. The Hebrew word for “helper” (ezer) is a strong and honorable term. In fact, the same word is often used in the Bible to describe God as the One who helps His people. It does not imply inferiority but strength, support, and partnership.

Biblical marriage is not about one person completing the other but about two people walking together under God, each using their unique gifts to glorify Him. A husband is called to love his wife sacrificially, just as Christ loved the church. A wife is called to respect and support her husband as they serve the Lord together. Both are called to humility, forgiveness, and selfless love.

A Godly spouse encourages faith, speaks truth in love, celebrates victories, carries burdens, and points the other toward Christ. The greatest marriages are not centered on personal happiness alone but on honoring God together. A strong biblical marriage is built not on who has more authority or importance, but on two people who daily choose to love, serve, forgive, and follow Christ together.
