I Don't Feel Good

Well it is that time of year again, Landon has been conjested all week and had a nasty sounding cough.. But the doctor gave him some meds and he is doing much better.. Upward is starting it's third week this Saturday and things are going pretty good.. We have a total of 152 kids involved.. I am excited about that...

Oh I have a birthday comming up in about 13 days and 5 hours... so if any one wants to get me a gift and really dont know what to get me.. I take all kinds of CASH!!!

Been To Long

Hey .. Well it has been awhile since my last post.. honestly I been really busy with Upward Ministries.. last weekend was our first game.. I don't know I think it went pretty good.....

Hey everyone...
Again I have to brag on someone.. Her name is Whitnay... or whom I like to call Whit-Ney... She is one of our students and she is also one of my Upward Cheer coaches.. Now, the reason I am bragging on her is not that she is a super cool teen who watches my 2 young boys some of the, most of the time.. and that she is my "honorary" daughter"..

But the fact that she wrote this letter to all her Upward Cheer parents.. It truly showed the heart of a teen who is trying to make a difference..

So it just goes to show you.. you can't judge all teens by what the news reports.. There are alot of AWESOME teens out there..

Here is a thought... why don't you take time out to talk to one.. you might just be suprised...

"Daddy.. I Got To Go Poopie!!!"

I am so excited!!!
Landon came to me this morning and said he had to poopie.. I was so happy for him.. He got on his stool.. (not that kind of "stool") and sat there.... and sat there.. and sat there.. then he made the cooliest face, and "plop"!! out it came!!!!

He jumped up and said..."Look daddy, it is poopie"!!!

I said "Yea!!!"

The he finished and we went and got a "scooby-snack" and watch TV..

Upward

Well.. Upward Basketball and Cheerleading has started this year.. I am sort of excited about this.. I think this might be one of our best years.. I have alot of new coaches who are excited about being a mentor to alot of deserving young kids.

I am very excited that we got a lot of new kids this year.. I am thrilled that we have so many returning families..

I am looking forward to see what God has planned this year!!!

Friday November 30th.

Well today I didn't make it into my office until around 12:00. I wasn't feeling to good yesterday when I got home from Falmouth. So what I did was take some meds and the meds made me very sleepy..

I think I still had it in my system 'cause when I got up this morning I was still feeling droggy..anyway.. This brings back memories of last night when I was watching TV..

You see I love the Hallmark Channel.. and they been having some good movies I might add. I watched one Wednesday night called the "Christmas Visitor" and was pretty good..

And then last night I watched a movie called "The Christmas Card" or somthihg.. but it was another pretty good romantic comedy.

"I'll Be There For You"

Thursday Nov 29th,

I just got back into my office from making a call into Mt. Sterlin.. It was a pretty amazing visit.. I would have to say and agree with, that the power of the Holy Spirit was with me.. and I belive I owe that to a pretty neat person.. who prayed with me before I left and who was praying for me the whole time I was visting.

I say that this "prayer-warrior" is pretty neat, but that is not true..This person is beyond "neat" I won't give away this person's name, (do to the fact that it might make them feel embrassed).. But I will say that, this person whom I call a FRIEND - BEYONDER..(that is someone who goes above and beyond the call of what a friend does- They are what Jesus would describe in John 15:13)

Anyway this "Friend-Beyonder" gave me a gift today that was in every shape and form, of the heart.. And for that I am truly THANKFUL!!

You can go though-out this world doing and saying the right things.. and not realizing that you are making an impact in peoples lives..

Today my "FRIEND-BEYONDER" showed me something that, they been telling me for months..

Like just yesterday.. I thought it would be funny to "re-live" Cathy's last two births .. you know the excitment of the drive to the hospital and the "cool sound effects" she made while giving birth!!...

"Hold-On!"

“Hold – On!!”
(A short story…In the Series of the Life of Believe)

As she looked down at the words “believe and love” hanging from a silver chain that in-circled her slim neckline. Believe couldn’t help but wonder, “how much more happiness can I take.” But, she was about to witness yet, another amazing encounter.

You see, Believe started her week out pretty bumpy. She knew she was loved, but yet, she didn’t truly understand what it would one day mean. You see to understand Believe; you have to understand the world that she lives in. As a writer of encounters, it would be injustice on my part to try to write into words what Believe feeling that weekend. Everyone has a moment in time when they feel totally alone, and sadly Believe got tangled in a web of lies from a voice that rules that dark side.

By dawn’s early light on a chilly October morning, Believe knew she needed to hear the voice of Patients. Though Believe expected the worse, she was amazed by the outcome of such a dreary October morning.

As we fast-forward 24 hours we see Believe enjoying that bright and warm sunshine. When came a moment in time, which will forever change her life.





Throughout Believes life, she did what was expected of such a beautiful child of a God that promised her a life of never ending happiness. She often wondered what she could do with her life that would bring even a more profound impact of her God’s glory.

Believe also had a heart for Widgets, Widgets are like Believe and Patients, but smaller and braver. Oh my, when you first encounter a Widget they have such magical powers that can cause a grown Snager to weep with joy. Widgets were often look down on because of their small statured. But, to hold a Widget in your arms, you will be empowered with a strength that can move mountains.

Believe always knew in her heart that she was placed in the land of Widgets for a reason. One day while talking to her friend Patients over the Sneeper-Snooper, she was transfer to another Sneeper-Snooper.

It seems that the school of advanced Widgets Fundamental was in dire straits of an Esrun to care for sad and lonely Widgets. Sadly Believe felt she couldn’t accept this blessing because of other commitments. As she was expressing her heart to Patients, she had another encounter on her potable Sneeper-Snooper. With the sad and empty words “Hold-On” she braced herself for the worse.

But to the surprise of Believe it was the main Esrun director who informed Believe that she could bless the Widgets part of the time.

Believe hung up the Sneeper-Snooper and screamed...

The Journey (part I )

Our story begins in the stars. There once was a beautiful pink flower that, for the sake of the story shall be called, Believe. Now Believe knew that the stars where set in the velvet night sky, for all creation to enjoy. The stars were also the world’s greatest compass. Anyone at any particular time could look up and always find their way home.

Believe loved to look up and wonder how God could name every star and still find time to create the wonders of this earth. But as time continued on, Believe began to lose her petals. The once vibrant, colorful pink flower started to show the fear and sadness of this world. As each day passed, Believe fell more and more into despair and heartache. This flower, who at one time was the beauty of the Creator, began to feel more and more like a rose, trampled on the ground.

For years, Believe felt incomplete. She kept her heart open for new journeys, but every time Believe began the journey, she was abandon.

Then one bright sunny day, the Creator place Believe on the road towards another journey. But this time, He the Creator decided to place in Believes path, a gate keeper that would hold the key. Now for the sake of argument we shall call this keeper of the key, Patients.

As Believe continues her new journey, she is compelled to understand the gate keeper. Now Patients was very similar to Believe, they had a lot in common, but also had a lot of heartache. Both were sadden buy the ways of this world and the hearts of many.

As the two continued their journey, they were met by many travelers along the way. Some were weary and need of comfort, others were cold-hearted and in need of forgiveness.

WHAT WE CHRISTIANS CAN LEARN FROM SPORTS FANS
1 CORINTHIANS 9:25

"My friend..claims I'm a baseball fanatic. She says all I ever read about is baseball. All I ever talk about is baseball. All I ever think about is baseball. I told her she's way off base."

INTRODUCTION:

It was July of 1924, and he was the fastest man in the world with high hopes for an Olympic Gold medal that summer.
But then he learned something that made his heart sink. The qualifying race for the 100 meters was scheduled for Sunday.

The 100 meter race was his best event but, Eric Liddell would not race on Sunday. He loved God and he honored Sunday as a day of worship and rest as the Bible teaches us. His coaches and even the government of Scotland pressured him to skip church and run that Sunday morning. But Eric refused, because he put God first.

While the other runners competed in the race on that Sunday morning, Eric spent that Lord’s Day in church, preaching the Word of God.
What’s more important, Eric didn’t go home from the 1924 Olympic Summer Games empty handed, he went home with his integrity and a fuller relationship with his Heavenly Father!

Oh yea, he also went home with a little something –something. A gold medal and a world record! Eric didn’t run in the 100 meter, which was his best event. Instead he entered the 400 meter and ran faster than any human had ever had.

That was over eighty years ago at the 1924 Pairs Olympics. Eric’s victory was the focus of the Oscar winning movie, Chariots of Fire. After winning the gold medal, Eric Liddell went on to attend the Seminary and then went to China as a Missionary.
The missionary field became very dangerous for Eric in the 1940’s. But Eric wouldn’t leave, the man who had enough integrity to put God’s will ahead of his own sports dream, also had enough courage to put God’s will ahead of his own safety.
Eric kept doing God’s work among the Chinese people, and eventually ended up in a prison camp. He was tortured for years until his death of a brain tumor at the age of 43.


Now I am going to tell you a brief story of another athlete who died of brain cancer at the age of 43. Unlike Eric Liddell, sports, was this athlete’s god, and he would stop at nothing to win.
He played most of his games on Sunday as a defensive of end in the NFL.
Lyle Alzado accomplished everything he dreamed of.
He led the NFL in sacks, he was named the defensive player of the year, and he even won a Super Bowl, all on Sunday.

Unfortunately, he could not have done these things without the use of steroids. Steroids made him bigger, stronger, and more aggressive on and off the field.
The steroids were against the law, but sports matter more than the law. The steroids were endangering his health, but sports matter more than his health.
The steroids cased mood swings that ruined relationships, but sports matter more than relationships.
Lyle Alzado’s second wife says, “Lyle often hit me in fits of anger and he was impossible to live with because of his never ending mood swings.” By the time Lyle Alzado reached his mid forties, he had been married four times.
At the age of 43, Lyle Alzado dies of brain cancer.

Now tell me, who had a better approach to life, Eric Liddell, or Lyle Alzado? You tell me, who was wiser, the man who put God first, or the one who would stop at nothing to win? You tell me, which of these two’s perspective on life is more typical today?

In a September 2004 article in the Street and Smith Sports Business Journal, they write: “The sports industry is one of the fastest growing industries in the United States, our annual survey of the size of the industry estimated the sports business industry last year at $212 billion. Endorsements alone where $1 billion in 2003, the sports industry is twice the size of the US auto industry and seven times the size of the movie industry, events like the Super Bowl, Indianapolis 500, Winston Cup, World Series and The Final Four, attract millions of fans.

Sadly, sports are also the biggest idol in millions of people’s lives, and many, many Christians follow athletes, as if they were gods.
Please don’t misunderstand my motive. This message is not to condemn sports as bad, because sports can teach us many important values, “if” we are willing to learn.

So what can sport fans possible teach Christians? Have you ever studied the origin of the word “fan?” The word “fan” is a shortened form of the word, “fanatic” and a “fanatic” is someone who is unreasonably enthusiastic, or overly zealous, going beyond what is reasonable. A fan however, is one who is passionate about a sport, pastime, or a certain performer.
The dedication and zeal that a sports fan shows for his team, or favorite athlete, might be considered fanatical, but, what if the object of that enthusiasm was Jesus Christ, and the things of God?
A lot of Christians stop short of full surrender to God, because of what people might say. After all, we don’t want to be fanatics, do we?


I. Sports Fans Are Faithful – They Don’t Conform
Sports fans like to identify with their team, so they have hats, shirts socks and even underwear with the logos of their favorite teas on them. They love to “represent” their team. Most authorities say that Michael Jordan was the greatest basketball player of all time, and it is said, that he wore his college teams, North Carolina Tar Heels, team shorts under his uniform while he was winning championships for the Chicago Bulls. “Once a Tar Heel, always a Tar Heel.” He once said. Did you know that some sports fans have even been buried in a replica jersey of their favorite team?

So if sports fans fanatical about representing their favorite team, why are we Christians, so shy about being a witness for Christ? A UK fan can leave his native Kentucky home and wear his blue and white proudly where ever he or goes. But the Christian gets in a crowd of lost people and loses his voice! I find that to be very disturbing, especially in the light of the fact that the Christian’s silence is disrespectful of their Heavenly Father.


Disrespect is a big deal in this country, everybody wants respect, but not many folks are winning to work for it or even earn it. Do you ever think about how disrespectful we are to God, when we make a mental choice of keeping silent for fear of embarrassment or ridicule, you are disrespecting the Father rather you realize it or not. Acts 1: 8 says. “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all of Judea and Samaria and to the ends of the earth.”

The witness represents Christ to the lost, and testifies what Christ had done for him. Atlanta Brave fans from the First Baptist Church in Atlanta often do the “tomahawk chop” in a crowded mall to show their team spirit, but their Pastor, Dr. Charles Stanley said, “We have trouble getting those same fans to witness for Christ in that same environment.” That my friend is disrespectful!


II. Sport Fans Are Not Stingy
Every year during the Christmas and New Year holidays, thousands of fans follow their college teams to a bowl game, which is their reward for a winning season. The Lexington Herald reported that, “fans will pay up to a $1,000.00 for tickets to the game.” Including airfare and hotel rooms, An individual fan spends an average of $2,000.00 on his bowl trip.

It seems that no sacrifice is too great, when your team or kid is involved. Contrast that attitude to that of those Christians who say, “Why does our Pastor always preach on money?” George Barna, in a 2005 poll of more than 5,000 Christians from 20 different churches found that.
92% of those who agreed with the above statement did not tithe regularly. Let’s take a look at what Paul had to say to the Corinthians in 2 Corinthians 8:7. “But, just as you excel in everything-in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness, and in your love for us-see that you also excel in the grace of giving.”

Excel in giving means to “exceed what is expected.” When we consider all that Christ has done for us, and the blessings that are waiting on us, we should be eager to worship God in our giving. Someone said, “You can give without loving, but you can never love without giving.” Giving and witnessing, is a true test of our love.

III. Sports Fans Are Tireless
Sports fans will travel for days to see their team play and some fans will sacrifice everything to travel to road games. No matter how far away, fans of college teams join booster clubs to further the efforts of their teams.

There was a Packers fan with a really bad seat at the stadium. Looking with his binoculars, he spotted an empty seat on the 50-yard line. Thinking to himself "what a waste" he made his way down to the empty seat. When he arrived at the seat, he asked the man sitting next to it, "Is this seat taken?" The man replied, "This was my wife's seat. She passed away. She was a big Packers fan." The other man replied, "I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. May I ask why you didn't give the ticket to a friend or a relative?" The man replied, "They're all at the funeral."


Mom and dads involved in community sports leagues, work tirelessly selling items to help buy equipment for their kid’s teams, and the funny thing is, if you don’t buy it, they get upset.
Why do so many get upset? Because, they are so passionate about their cause. They drive their kids hundreds of miles and spend millions of dollars, so their kids can play on the “select-teams” that are supposed to be the best of the best, but, are they?


According to a 2006 article in Sports Illustrated concerning little league baseball. “There are very few non-select teams today, because too many teams are calling themselves a select teams and that is watering down the talent on what select teams.”


Do you realize that when we Christians get saved, we are on a select team! And our job is to draft those who are not saved onto our genuine “select-team.”
Unfortunately, some Christians, (like many parents who get upset when their kid, who they think is the next Michael Jordan or Derik Jettier doesn’t start) get upset if they are not publicly recognized for their efforts. Ok, if you don’t remember anything about this massage remember this. There are many believers who go their whole lives working in obscurity, and never get credit for their hard work. Romans 6:22 says. “But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness and the result is eternal life.” Galatians 5:13 says. “You my brothers were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather serve one another in love.”


IV. Sports Fans Are Loyal
If you enjoy sports at all you probably heard the term: “bandwagon fans.” Bandwagon fans are those fans who switch from one team to another, according to wins and losses. There are always on the side of the winning team. But these fans are held in derision by most true fans.
Most fans choose their loyalties based on their parents or childhood memories. And once you become a fan of a certain team, the bond is for life, “if” you are a genuine fan. Win or lose sink or swim, they are your team!
We Christians should have the same attitude, as Paul taught the Philippians in Chapter 3

“I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me Heavenward in Christ Jesus.”

Oh my goodness... (part II)

Brady had a football game last night.. and oh my goodness.. Forget what I blogg about in the past..

Brady (#75 in your program but #1 in your hearts) seen this kid with the ball running towards him.. I guess the other player thought he was "going to run over Brady."

But "The L-Train" stood his ground and put him to the ground!!.. Now we did have to talk about what he did to the player while he was still on the ground ...I was sort of smiling and proud.. but we still had to talk about it..

After he put the player to the ground.. He proceeded to stand over him and say "Don't get up!" (shhhh I loved it!!!!)

We went to Brady's football game last night,.. and Brady was about to tackel this kid from the other team,.. when all of a sudden.. this "monster" of a player (who I was told weighted in at 290 lbs) hit Brady who came off the ground and rolled a good 3 feet.. Then he just laid there...

His mom jumped up and... (well you know how moms can be) But when he got up and look at us in the stands and nodded, we knew he was ok..

Later on that night, Brady and I were talking .. he said.."Dad, that guy hit me hard!!"

New Friend

It is pretty cool how God works..

This pass month I made a new friend... This friend of mine thinks I am pretty "down to earth" and "a funny guy!!"

My friend also said that I have been blessed with a gift from God.. And that I use that gift for God's church...

That made me feel pretty good..

So if my "new" friend reads this blog.. Thanks "ole-pal"

Toot Toot

Well, I do believe Brady will be able to move into his new room on Sunday or even sooner, maybe Saturday!!

Yea, yea I know what you all are thinking.. "Ok who helped.. or who did it".. honestly Cathy and Brady and I did most of the work.. Curtis show me how and Roger did the electric..(come on I am proud not stupid haha) and we did the dry wall and painting.. I even made the closet.. We are installing the carpet Saturday morning or mabye Friday night!!

Anyway.. I am not one to "toot my horn but.. I think I deserve it!!

Does It Matter?

I am sitting in my office. It is around 6:40pm on Tuesday August 28, 2007. That is correct. It is Tuesday, but does it matter? I have a lodge meeting to go to in about 45 minutes, but does it matter? I had a frozen dinner for supper tonight, but does it matter?
I just went back and fixed all the “dots” that should have been question marks”, but does that matter?

I guess what I am getting at is that for some time now, I noticed more and more people trying to “fit-in” or rush or even stress over the smallest things. When only thing that really matters is that we are here to please God.

I caught my self from time to time recently just worrying over the littlest things instead of trying to “save the world”.. (Or in most cases, make it a little more pleasant for others)

Well this month I had the opportunity to baptize two young kids and another is set to be baptizing soon. I tell you what. You want to get a perceptive on life..
Watch a young child hear, learn and accept Jesus Christ.. That is what matters!

Been A While…

It has been a while since I last posted... I have been busy working on Brady’s room...well; sort of... anyway we are almost done... I am hoping to have it finished this weekend. I am going to work hard on Sat and Sun and Mon and Tuesday..

Anyway I am going to think of something to blogg about..

The L Train

The “torch” has been passed!!.. Brady made the Harrison County Middle School football team and we are very excited!... I knew he would have no problem making it.. But I think the thing that made his mom and me the proudest was that he went to his coach and said that he would either have to leave early or not show up on Wednesday nights, because it was his Bible study time with his youth group at church..

It is nice to see that even though he can be a “typical” pre-teen.. He still knows what his priorities are..

Side note - He is joining his schools FCA (Fellowship of Christian Atletes) way to go Brady Love... I mean "L Train"

Thomas the Train Engine

You want to make a 2 year old smile... Show up with a box that has Thomas the train in it or Percy the mail carrier or even James the freight hauler.. You can’t forget Toby the older steam engine and of course the day is not completed unless you get instructions from Sir Toppenhat.

Well that is how I start my day with Landon.. We get down on the floor and play with the train sets.. But what is even funnier or should I say very cute, is when he says his bed time prayers and includes with mom and dad, are Thomas, Percy, James..

The Art of “Forking”

In my last blog, I had some people inquire on the art of “forking”.. !
Basically, what you do is you get a ton of white plastic forks, and then you sneak up on a co-worker or a “good –natured” person’s house and start sticking the forks (all the forks) in the yard.
You must always have the “prongs” (those stick things at the ends) sticking up...
When done right, it is a beautiful sight!

Where Does Time Go

I can’t believe that it is almost August! I have to admit that this has been one of my busiest months to date… So let me give you all a quick recap of July 2007

During the first week of July, I took a vacation week!! (Yea, Ministers take vacations – but not from God!) We went to Holiday World, then to Thomas the Train! The second week in July, I was in the office part of the week. We had a trip to the Maysville Water Park! That was very exciting... especially the “storm that just missed us, or when we almost ran out of gas!

The third part of July, I was at Camp Northward!! (iTune Into God)..This was an AWESOME time.. Besides the greatest worship band being there, Lois Lane and myself “forked” someone’s (Kev’s) yard.. Oh yea and Lois “knocked” on the door and ran off!! This was a great time… Way to go Lois!!

And now, finally we are towards the end of July… We went to the Air Force Museum on Tuesday and Friday the kids are visiting a fire house and its men and woman who bravely work there!

Over all it was a great month…But I have to give my top 3 things…

1.. Vacation with the family
2.. Camp Northward
3.. Lois and myself forking someone’s (Kev’s) yard!!

If I could be a bird, I'd be a Flying Purple People Eater because then people would sing about me and I could fly down and eat them because I hate that song.

Once while walking through the mall a guy came up to me and said "Hey, hows it going?". So I grabbed his arm and twisted it up behind his head and said "Now whose asking the questions?"

I think a pillow should be the peace symbol, not the dove. The pillow has more feathers than the dove, and it doesn't have a beak to peck you with.

If a kid asks where rain comes from, I think a cute thing to tell him is "God is crying." And if he asks why God is crying, another cute thing to tell him is "Probably because of something you did."

And in the baby shark there isn't a person, because it would be too small. But there's a little doll or something, like a Johnny Combat little toy guy---something like that.

I think a good product would be "Baby Duck Hat". It's a fake baby duck, which you strap on top of your head. Then you go swimming underwater until you find a mommy duck and her babies, and you join them. Then, all of a sudden, you stand up out of the water and roar like Godzilla. Man, those ducks really take off! Also, Baby Duck Hat is good for parties.

If you go parachuting, and your parachute doesn't open, and you friends are all watching you fall, I think a funny gag would be to pretend you were swimming.

Are We There Yet

Phew!! I am wore out! Today, I along with some "brave" adults took out K-5th grade youth group to the US Air Force Museum in Dayton Ohio.... (about 2 hours away)... So you can imangine the patients of the kids.. But I have to say they did a great job!!..

The museum is a pretty cool place. We visted the "Early Years" , "WWII", "Modern Flight", and the "Space Program". Over all it was a pretty good day..

Camp Week

Well I just finished another year of church camp.. It is around 2:30 in the am and I about to head of to bed.. We get an extra hour sleep in the morning.. Which means I will be waking up in about 5 hours..
I have to say it was a pretty good week over all.. The rain came and went through out the week and the sun beat down on us.. But it wasnt too bad.. My partner in crime "Lois" came and helped out a few days..
I tell you what I dont think I ever remember laughing as hard as I did when we were just hanging out..(Hay-rides, Carpet ball, Forks, knocks on doors, holes in the ground...and so on) that was just one of the many highlights we had this week..

I will post more next time about the "DJ2L" and "The RAVE" I mean Jam Session!!

Well it has been a while since I've last blogg.. That being said.. I am not going to do any spell check right now.. So if you see some errors.. (Live with it!!) haha just kidding.. My computer at home is on the fritz.. So I couldn't blogg..

But the main reason is I have been busy.. We had VBS then I took a vacation week.. It was really relaxing and fun.. We took Brady and his buddy to Holiday World in Indiana that was pretty much fun.. Then we took Landon to see Thomas the Train Engine.. He got to ride on a train and everything... He loved it!!.. Plus we are building a bedroom for Brady down in the basement.. which is going pretty good.. considering I have never done anything like this before..

Well I will write more next time..

What a busy week it has been. I haven’t been able to post much, because we were having Vacation Bible School this week. We have a couple of more days left till it is over. I am really enjoying this years VBS, all my workers and staff are doing an exceptional job!! So “Thanks People!!”

The other day I was going through some music videos getting ready for yet another “True Lies-The Dangers of Music Movies and TV” class. I came across this video I haven’t really seen in quite some time. The song is by a group that was around in the early part of 2000. They were known as CREED...
As I was watching the video to the song “Arms Wide Open” I started thinking about my own kids... (If you never heard the song, it is about a father talking to his unborn son)...Any way, there I am watching this video and all I can think about were my three boys. There is one part in the song that sort of sticks out it go like this.
“If I can have just one wish, maybe one request, I hope he (the son) is not like me,
I hope he understands, that you can take this world and hold it by both hands, and you can greet this world… with arms wide open”

I don’t know how I am doing as a father... I am still new to all of this, in less then 4 years I became a dad to a “pre-teen” a “toddler” and a “newborn” I just hope that they can understand why I do what I have to do and sometimes daddy maybe is too strict, and why I want them to “greet this world, with arms wide open”

Cathy's Dream

Ha-ha check this out- We took the "Toddler Ministry" to a petting zoo today, but I will talk about that in my next post. But I have to share with you the conversation I had with my beautiful bride.
I get home around 5pm tonight from the zoo and picking up Brady from camp, and after I unloaded the van. I was in the kitchen and Cathy was telling me about her dream she had last night.
Everyone knows I am a huge Superman fan, which includes the CW’s and Warner Bros. smash hit Smallville.
Now Landon loves to call me “Superman”, and Kayla (Lois Lane) calls me Clark, ok I sort of make them call me that (ha ha ) anyway, Cathy said she dreamed I had the body of Smallville’s Clark Kent..!!
And she was like talking in her dream saying,”Come here and kiss me!!” (Ha-ha) I was cracking up... Anyway she is going to kill me for saying this... Got to love it!

John 15:13, this is it what I decided to title this, my latest blog entry. Why you ask? Well to fully understand, you have to be able to know what John 15:13 is... so I will give you all a few minutes to look it up……………………..
You see, I been having a bad week, not in the since of bad things all together, just a lot of stress, disappointments and sadness with things in my life. I been having some problems with the city of Cynthiana and its people and today I got some news (that I wont go into detail about-don’t worry the family is fine, I am fine) that sort of “peeved” me off. I was so mad and upset I didn’t know what to do.
So I called my friend Mark, you know, he came right over and sat down and talked with me and was a real friend.
He even came back later on tonight to make sure I was ok...

At first I felt embarrassed to have to call someone. But then I remember how Mark and I hung out and talked before..

I am feeling so much better now; the problem is resolved with the certain situation. But I guess I just wanted to publicly thank my friend Mark...

So Old …Moses Signed His Year Book..

Ok check this out.. I have a neighbor behind our house.. I don’t think he likes me too much. I really haven’t figured it out why yet. I think it is mainly because he is pretty much as old as creation itself. Mind you now, I mean no disrespect, but let me tell you what “Old man river” has done..

Ok about 2 years ago.. I took some time off and build the boys a tree house on stilts. It is pretty neat looking it has windows and furniture in it. I also attached a slide and 3 swings to it to give it a more family friendly look. I painted it red and made it look really pretty. I noticed some “wasted” area behind and off to the right of the club house, so I thought I would build a little bon fire pit with benches and stuff. So, the day came when it was completed, I decided that Brady and I would camp out in it and build a small “marsh- mellow roasting” fire. I am serious when I say small, the flame was no bigger then a candle. Any way “Old man river” called the Fire Dept. on me. Then he proceeded to come over with his son (who is about 30ish) and he and his 30ish son insist that the smoke was affecting his daughter’s asthma. Then the 30ish dad preceded TO PUT OUT HIS CIGARETTE!!

Then last week he called the city and informed them that (according to the letter from the city council) that my yard was “UNHEALTHY” and that the “Vegetation” was too long” So we spent last weekend “fixing” the problems. I still notice “Old man river” driving up and down his “road” looking at my yard..

I guess some people are born to be mean.. Anyway to “Old man river” You have a blessed day my friend!!

Well tonight I completed my 10 week course of the Falmouth Citizen’s Police Academy.
We had some guest speakers and some great food at the graduation ceremony. The two best parts were when they let me say a few words at the beginning and have a moment of silence and prayer for the falling Officers and the families who must go on. and having Cathy there to see me receive this hornor. I concluded with the reading of Ephesians 6:10-12, where Paul talks about the Armor of God and that we are fighting a war not of the flesh but of the spirit.
One thing I heard over and over again was that “The days of Mayberry and Barney are gone.” And as I look around today and watch the news and listen to Brady tell me some things about the schools...
It is so true…. The days of Mayberry are gone…
Thanks to all the fellows of the Falmouth Police Dept. I had a blast... and the rest of the Class of 2007 Citizens Academy.

Boy Meets Girl

Ok today is my wedding anniversary Cathy and I have been married today for 11 years. So I thought it would be neat to relive our history in an “abstract art” form. Oh, before that, if you are wondering what we did today. Well I sent red roses to her office yesterday and today we went out to lunch then to an art museum in Lexington. We are taking Brady and Landon to the Cincinnati Zoo in the morning and little Alexander is spending the day with his Aunt Peggy and cousin Alexis. Ok here we go

End Of An Era

Yesterday was Bracken County High school’s Commencement service for the year of 2007.
I saw a lot of students from camps and church’s I knew graduate. So congrats to all those, but more especially to my partner in crime “Lois Lane”!!

Monday night was the District Tournament for the Lady Polar Bears of Bracken County. Have to give a “Way to go Lois” to my partner “Lois Lane” for pitching a no-hitter and for being named MVP (Most Valuable Player)!!

Senior Night In The Bear Cage

Friday, was “senior night” for a couple of Lady Polar Bears of Bracken County. The fast pitched softball team and boosters honored the two seniors.
It was a pretty awesome event. They had the two players stand in the middle of the infield and the announcer talked about each of their “fast pitched” softball careers.

To hear their stories was quite moving. The best part of it all was when they both received gifts of flowers, bears, balloons and quilts from family and friends to show their appreciation.

I was very proud of one particular bear. Way to go “Lois” on an OUT STANDING high school career.

“Lois” will be having graduation in a few days. So I want to leave my friend and partner in crime this little bit of “wisdom”

Dude....No Way

Tonight at our Citizens Police Academy class, we got to meet and listen to the stories of a real life DEA agent. It was pretty awesome to hear the stories. But the funny thing was, and I shared this with the class and the DEA agent, is that when he first walked into the class, to me he looked like a common street punk. I thought he was here to talk about his time in lock-up and how is putting his life back together. And then low and behold they introduced him as a Special Agent undercover for the DEA.

Billy Jack

Lately, I have been lying down with Landon during his bed time until he feels safe and comfortable. (I only fell asleep once, ok maybe twice since we started) then I would get up and finish what needs to be done for the night (usually eating a sandwich) But last night for some reason I was lying there watching him and he was talking to me saying things like “drink daddy” or “daddy poopie diaper” Any way, I got to thinking about when I was his age and maybe a bit older, and how my dad use to love this movie called “Billy Jack”. This morning while driving to the office the theme song from Billy Jack came on the radio, and I started cracking up laughing. Lost Moon

I was sitting here feeding Alexander and there wasn’t anything really good on TV, so I decided to put in my DVD of the movie Apollo 13. This movie is based on the book “Lost Moon” by Jim Lovell.
The movie, and book accounts the extraordinary days in space, and the events and situations that the crew, which consist of Jim Lovell, Fred Haze, and Jack Swagger, had to do to get back home safely.
The book and the movie are pretty good.

I have started working out again! So the next time I go up against RED – MAN, I will be looking like this!!!!

If Need Be…

I know after my last post, a lot of people might be wondering, “how could a Christian Minister of Children and Families, be so aggressive and violent.” Honestly I am not as violent as the post seemed. I love Jesus with all my heart and I will “turn the other cheek” every chance I get. But I would also like to remind you that we live in an evil world and if I may, like to leave you with this quote.
“A good shepherd will always protect his sheep, and sometimes he might have to fight the wolf!”

Redman

Tonight, I had my Falmouth Police Citizen’s Academy class. Before I get into the story I am about to say, I have to take my hat off to any and all Police Officers. “Hats Off” you guys and gals do amazing work.
Now on to my story, and after you read this you will understand how “pumped and tired” I feel

What happens is that they put an officer in this protective red suit and you as the “acting” officer on duty are put in some scenarios. With that being said, this how my night went down.
Scenario #1
I was called to the house of a gentleman who was 89 years of age and had lost his wife of 50 years and for the past few weeks wasn’t taking care of himself and needed to be taken to the hospital for mental evaluation. Well I had to make some commands in a very loud voice he wouldn’t do what I asked him to do, and then he had a knife. He started talking about wanting to kill himself so I pulled out my night stick and try to talk him down. Just then he started inching towards me. I was yelling at the top of my voice to drop the knife, he wouldn’t then he came after me and I shot him. I tried it again and this time instead of shooting him I wrestled him to the ground and he gave up.

Scenario #2
I was on a routine traffic stop for speeding, and came to fine out that this guy had a warrant out for his arrest. He wouldn’t exit the vehicle so I had to drag him out. Just then he attacked me. I got my night stick out and started beating him but then he got the upper hand and tried to get on top of me. Just then I think something “snapped” I just got mad or something, and rolled him over and finally got him handcuffed and while he was handcuffed, I was still beating him!

The Officers said I did a great job with my voice commands and everything else. Just one little thing. “Lonnie, when you have them in handcuffs, you can’t keep beating them”

I found out one thing; I didn’t realize how much aggression I had stored up (ha-ha)

Over all, it was a pretty intense night.

What Do You Say?

This is so funny…
Yesterday, we had a gentleman stop by our house to estimate how much a new furnace and central air unit would be (we are planning to have it all installed by the end of May) anyway, he was supposed to be at the house at 10am. Well, around 11am he wasn’t there yet. So “mother nature” and the “chili dogs, egg salad, soda pops, couple candy bars, bowl of cereal and a Sunday cone,” started kicking in. I told Cathy I was heading to the rest room to “relax and think about life” anyway as soon as I got my self comfortable, there was a knock at the door. Yep! It was him. Cathy didn’t know what to do or say. She introduced herself and said, “my husband is in the shower.” I heard this and started laughing. How could I been in the shower with out the water running. And what made it worse, sometimes it takes me while to “relax” so I hear them in the basement while they were looking at the old furnace. And I was thinking to myself. He still doesn’t hear any water running. By that time I thought it would be a good time to “flush away my sorrows” and I started to quack up laughing to myself. Cathy said she was so embarrassed when they heard the toilet flush, knowing that she told him I was in the shower minutes before.
